Brief Introduction

Dr. Jasdev Singh joined PAU as Assistant Economist on 17.07.1998 after completing M.Sc. Agriculture Economics from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana in 1992 and Ph.D. (Agricultural Economics) from PAU, Ludhiana in 1997. In PAU, he worked as Assistant Economist (1998-2007); Farm Economist, (2007-2013) and Senior Agricultural Economist/Principal Agricultural Economist (2013 – till date). Presently, he is working as In-charge of the centrally sponsored scheme “Comprehensive Scheme for Studying the Cost of Cultivation of Principal Crops in Punjab”, funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India. Besides he worked in various schemes/projects including Energy Requirement in Agricultural Sector in India (ICAR-AICRP), Establishing and Networking of Market Intelligence Centers in India (ICAR-NAIP), Agro Economic Research Centre (Government of India), Estimation of District-wise Cost of Cultivation of Important Crops in Punjab (Government of Punjab) and Social Science Network Project on Resource Use Planning for Sustainable Agriculture (ICAR-NIAP). He has published about 75 research papers, 10 Research Reports, 6 book chapters and ten extension articles. Twenty M.Sc. and three Ph.D. students completed their degrees under his guidance. Presently, he is guiding one Ph.D. student in the field of Agricultural Economics. He has experience of teaching various courses related to Agricultural Economics. During field visits he has been providing technical guidance to the farmers relating to problems faced by them in cultivation/marketing of crops and informing them regarding new production technologies, packages and practices and latest recommendation of the PAU.

  3. ICAR Social Science Network Project on Resource Use Planning for Sustainable Agriculture funded by ICAR-NIAP (Co-PI). 
  4. Rapid Appraisal of Direct Seeding of Rice in Punjab funded by Punjab state Farmers’ and Farm workers’ Commission, Mohali, Punjab (Co-PI).
