PAU AGRONOMY ALUMNUS INSPIRES STUDENTS ON GLOBAL RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES AND SUSTAINABLE FARMING

The Ludhiana Chapter of the Indian Society of Agronomy (ISA) hosted an invited talk by Dr Kulbhushan K. Grover, Professor, New Mexico State University (NMSU), USA, on December 4, 2025, at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). Dr Grover, an alumnus of the Department of Agronomy, previously served PAU as Assistant Professor from 1996 to 2003. He earned his Ph.D. in Agronomy from The Pennsylvania State University, USA, after completing his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Agronomy from PAU.
Dr Grover currently leads a nationally recognized research and education programme in sustainable crop production at NMSU, where his work focuses on cover crops and crop rotations for soil enhancement in arid environments, as well as evaluation of specialty crops such as guar. He presently serves as Chair of the Agronomic Production Systems Section, American Society of Agronomy (ASA), and President of the Association of Agricultural Scientists of Indian Origin (AASIO).
Dr Hari Ram, President of ISA Ludhiana Chapter and Head, Department of Agronomy, introduced the speaker to an audience comprising postgraduate students and faculty. Prof. Grover shared valuable insights on sustainable crop management, resource conservation and profitability for farmers, stressing the critical role of agronomy research in adapting to global challenges.
The lecture was followed by an interactive session where students engaged in discussions on international education pathways, eligibility requirements, and emerging issues in crop production, especially in the context of climate change and sustainable agricultural systems. Dr Simerjeet Kaur coordinated the event, while Dr Harmeet Singh, Professor, Department of Agronomy, proposed the formal vote of thanks.
PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Satbir Singh Gosal congratulated Dr Grover on his international accomplishments, stating, “PAU takes pride in its alumni and looks forward to collaborative initiatives with NMSU to address the challenges in sustainable agriculture.”
Dr M.I.S. Gill, Dean Postgraduate Studies, and Dr Hari Ram also commended the speaker and anticipated future research partnerships between the two institutions.
