PAU- Farm Advisory Service Centre, Ropar and Mohali in association with Maize Section, Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, PAU Ludhiana organised one day training program on Hybrid Seed Production in Maize in which 30 farmers participated. At the onset of the training, Dr. Raminder Singh Ghuman (DES Agronomy) welcomed the participants, apprised them about the activities of FASC and role of training in promoting the maize cultivation.
Dr. Tosh Garg (Maize Breeder) discussed the techniques of hybrid seed production in maize. Dr. Mahesh Kumar (Principal Agronomist) made the farmers aware about the improved agronomic practices in sustaining maize cultivation.
Dr. Sandeep Kaur (Maize Breeder) discussed about the processing, grading and safe storage of hybrid seed. Dr. Jwala Jindal (Principal Entomologist) apprised the farmers about the major insect pests of maize, effective control and spray methods. Dr. Ashutosh Khushwah (Maize Breeder) gave practical tips to farmers for producing quality hybrid seed in maize. Dr. Harleen Kaur (Principal Pathologist) discussed about the important diseases of the maize and their management. The farmers showed great interest in the training. At the end, the queries of the farmers regarding the hybrid seed production were taken and relevant solutions were given by the concerned experts. Dr Avneet Kaur (DES Fruit Science) proposed vote of thanks and urged the farmers to adopt subsidiary occupations and crop diversification to make agriculture profitable.
