Punjab Agricultural University’s-Farm Advisory Service Centre (FASC) Sangrur conducted a kisan goshti focused on “Nutrient and weed management after first irrigation in wheat” at village Turi, near Bhwanigarh Sangrur.
Dr. Ashok Kumar, District Extension Scientist-cum-incharge FASC Sangrur, provided guidance to farmers on managing weeds particularly gulli danda (Phalaris minor) weed in wheat after first irrigation. They were informed about different weedicides that can be sprayed on wheat crop to control gulli danda after first irrigation viz. Isoproturon 75 WP, Topik, Axial 5 EC (pinoxaden) along with respective doses required. He highlighted the critical need to address manganese deficiency in wheat through foliar applications, especially in soils with lighter textures, while advising against the application of boron in wheat cultivation. Furthermore, recommended doses of urea needed after first irrigation based on soil test results was also discussed. Farmers posed various questions, including those concerning the use of nano-urea, the necessity of sulfur fertilizers, methods for soil and water sampling, doses for urea spray, identification of manganese and zinc deficiencies, and the application of potassium nitrate in wheat production, all questions were thoroughly addressed. Additionally, PAU literature was made available for purchase by the farmers. The event also featured the exhibition and sale of mineral mixtures, UMMB, bypass fat and premix. At the end, team visited S. Manjit Singh’s wheat fields and first irrigation has already been applied and no insect pest attack has been observed.
