Under the aegis of Punjab Agricultural University and ICAR-ATARI, Zone-I, Ludhiana a group of enthusiastic school students of Government Senior Secondary School for Girls, Khanauri visited PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur on 21.01.2026 as part of an educational field trip aimed at promoting awareness about modern agricultural practices and innovations. Approximately, 180 students participated in the excursion tour.
Dr. Mandeep Singh, Incharge, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur briefed the students about the mandates of KVKs. Further, he emphasized KVK’s role in promoting latest agricultural technologies for sustainable farm development and generating income and employment opportunities for farming and rural communities through adoption of subsidiary occupations. Students were encouraged to consider agriculture-based education and careers, highlighting the vast opportunities available in this sector.
Dr. Gurbir Kaur, Assistant Professor (Plant Pathology) deliberated to the students about bee biology, including the structure, types, classes, life cycle, and division of labour within bee colonies.
Dr. Ravinder Kaur, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) discussed Mushroom cultivation as a subsidiary occupation with the students. She discussed essential steps like composting, spawning, casing, and picking
Dr. Vitasta, Assistant Professor (Home Science) discussed the importance of a balanced diet during adolescence, a critical stage for physical and mental development.
During the event, students visited the Mushroom Unit, Beekeeping Unit, Soil Testing Laboratory, Home Science Laboratory and Paddy Straw based biogas plant, where they gained practical exposure to various agricultural and allied activities. Principal of the School Sh Balwinder Singh presented the vote of thanks. The school teachers expressed their gratitude to the KVK faculty for organizing an informative and successful programme for the students.
