PAU SBS ORGANIZES EDUCATIONAL TOUR TO VILLAGE SUDHAR FOR MBA STUDENTS UNDER ICAR INITIATIVE

The School of Business Studies (SBS), Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, successfully organized a one-day educational tour on 21st January, 2026, under the visionary leadership of Dr. Ramandeep Singh, Director, School of Business Studies, to Village Sudhar as part of its academic outreach under the ICAR Student and Faculty Amenities initiative. The programme aimed to expose MBA and MBA (Agribusiness)students to a live agribusiness model of sustainable farming, with a special focus on floriculture seed production and protected cultivation along with contract farming.

A group of 24 students participated in the educational visit, which was designed to bridge theoretical understanding with field-based learning. The educational tour featured a structured programme that included village interaction, observation of agribusiness operations, and expert interactions with professionals and practitioners.

The educational visit commenced with a visit to the historic Gurudwara Shri Mehdiana Sahib, located near Jagraon in Punjab. This renowned Gurudwara holds immense historical significance and is often referred to as the “School of Sikh History” due to its distinctive and vividly crafted sculptures and monuments that portray key events of Sikh history. During this visit, students gained valuable insights into the principles, heritage and historical foundations of the Sikh religion.

Following this, a Deharka Pind Walk was organised to provide students with first-hand exposure to rural life. The walk offered a glimpse into the traditional lifestyle of village residents, including visits to several old and architecturally significant homes that reflect the region’s cultural heritage. During the walk, students also had the opportunity to interact with the mother of one of the esteemed alumni of SBS Mr.Chamkaur Singh, fostering a sense of connection between the institution and the local community.

This was followed by an in-depth technical session on the Floriculture Seed Business delivered by Mr. Gurpartap Singh Gill (Gaurav), S/o S. Charanjit Singh Gill, Gill Farm, Sudhar. He shared valuable insights into the operational aspects of the enterprise, market linkages,contract farming and sustainability practices adopted in his agri business, offering students a practical understanding of floriculture-based agribusines in line with contract farming.

An additional session on “Innovations in Agribusiness” was conducted by Mr. M. S. Malhi, Advisor (Agribusiness), focusing on emerging opportunities, value addition and technology-driven agri-enterprises. The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, enabling students to seek clarifications on practical, managerial and entrepreneurial dimensions directly from the experts and State awardee Agripreneur S. Charanjit Singh Gill.

Mr. Gurinder Singh, CEO, NIDHI-TBI, and Mr. Sameer Gautam, Business Manager, NIDHI-TBI, also motivated the students to ideate innovatively and explore entrepreneurship-oriented solutions in the agribusiness sector.Students,Faculty along with hosts planted Pagoda,Gulmohar and Lagerstroemia trees at farm.Students enjoyed photo session at Marigold flower field at village Sudhar,Ludhiana.

The educational tour concluded with a formal vote of thanks followed by high tea. Dr. Rakesh Rathore, Assistant Professor, SBS and Dr. Navneet Kaur, Assistant Professor, SBS, also accompanied the students and shared valuable insights on agricultural transformation. The initiative reaffirmed SBS’s commitment to experiential learning and inclusive capacity building by providing students with meaningful exposure to sustainable agribusiness practices and real-world enterprise models.
