Dr Jawala Jindal, completed his studies at PAU, Ludhiana and his focus is on developing Integrated Pest management for insect pests of maize. He has conducted research on screening of maize germplasm and bases of resistance against insect pests, QTL mapping for insect resistance, population dynamic studies, biological control, chemical control, cultural control and habitat management to strengthen the IPM in maize. Out of research work, he has >20 recommendations to his credit. Most prominent are management of maize stem borer, Chilopartelluswith biocontrol agent Trichogrammachilonis, devised the seed treatment for the control of shoot fly in spring sown maize and development of management strategy for  newly introduced pest, fall armyworm. He has >150 publications to his credit, including 75 research papers in international and national Journals. He is actively engaged in UG and PG students’ research alongwith the direct involvement with the farmers by demonstrating the developed technology at their fields.

  1. Development and popularization of IPM strategies for the insect pests of maize.
  2. Maize breeding for improved insect pest tolerance

Completed:  Ecological implications of abundance of Pink stem borer, Sesamiainferens Walker in rice-wheat cropping system in Punjab funded by SERB-DST.

  1. All India Coordinated Maize Improvement Project (ICAR-4).
  2. Field efficacy testing of Gaprole FAW 31.4% eco dispenser against fall armyworm, Spodopterafrugiperda on maize (CO-PI).
