- Dr Rimaljeet Kaur was awarded SAAR-Young Scientist Award by Society of Agriculture & amp; Allied Research for outstanding contribution in the field of ‘Crop Science’ in 2021. She also received INSPIRE Faculty Award by Ministry of Science and Technology, DST, New Delhi on “Associative transcriptomics and metabolomics of stress signal transduction in Brassica juncea alien introgression lines varying for their resistance responses to Lipaphis erysimi herbivory” in 2017.
- Dr Yadhu Suneja was awarded Early Career Research Award (2016-17) by Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), DST, GOI for a period of three years. She had also availed Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral and Professional Research Fellowship (August 2012- May 2013) for carrying out a part of PhD research work at Washington State University, USA for a period of nine months. She had received a certificate of achievement for participating in Global Food Security Workshop organized by U.S. Department of State and North Carolina State University from October 17th to October 21st 2012 at North Carolina State University, U.S.A.
- Dr. Satvir Kaur Grewal was awarded SRF, RA and SRA by CSIR, New Delhi. The Society for Advancement of Academics, Sports, and Cultural Activities (SAASCA), PAU, Ludhiana, recognized her with an Award of Honour for her research accomplishments in 2004. She was conferred with the Young Scientist award (DST, New Delhi) in 2004. She is a Fellow of Indian Society of Pulses Research and Development (Kanpur) and Indian Society of Agricultural Biochemists (Kanpur).
- Dr. Rachana D Bhardwaj was awarded Young Scientist award by Science and Engineering Research Board’ (SERB) DST, New Delhi in 2014.
Student Awards
- Ms Manpreet Kaur, (Admission No. L-2018-BS-74-D), PhD student of Department of Biochemistry was invited as a short term scholar for six months in the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA. She did her research on the stability of food lipids in the lab of Dr. Eric A. Decker, Head, Department of Food Science, University of Massachusetts. Manpreet Kaur also received Prime Minister Research Fellowship (initiative of FICCI and SERB) in collaboration with Industry partner ‘Chemical Resources, Panchkula’ on the topic “Biochemical Characterization of Euryhaline Microalgal Strains for Bioactive Metabolites” under guidance of Dr. Surekha Bhatia, Senior Biochemist, Department of Processing and Food Engineering.
- Heena Rani (L-2018-BS-75-D), a Ph.D. student in the Department of Biochemistry under the Giodance of Dr. Rachana D. Bhardwaj, Senior Biochemist in the Department of Biochemistry, had been awarded with India’s Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) Overseas Visiting Doctoral Fellowship Program (OVDF) at Purdue University, USA. She joined Professor Szymanski’s lab in the Dept. of Botany and Plant Pathology in July, 2021 and worked on Malt quality and thermostability studies in mutants, hulled, hull-less and wild genotypes of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.). At Purdue University, she used Shotgun Proteomics approach to decipher differentially expressed proteins in barley during malting. After her Ph.D., she bagged the “Postdoctoral Research Associate Position” at U.S. Department of Agriculture, Madison, Wisconsin.
- Ms. Gurkanwal Kaur Sekhon, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Biochemistry, had been awarded with the prestigious Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Young Research Fellowship for the year 2020-21. She had worked on “Process Optimization of Conversion of Paddy Straw into Ethanol and Xylitol” under the guidance of Dr Monica Sachdeva Taggar, Biochemist, School of Energy studies. This research work is being carried out in the Pathak Energy Laboratories, Department of Renewable Energy Engineering, PAU. Her research work is focused on the utilization of lignocellulosic agricultural residue: paddy straw for the production of biofuels and other value added products.
- Diksha Singla (L-2012-BS-44-IM) was awarded Avtar Singh Atwal Gold Medal in 2021 for the year 2017-2018.
- Many students are pursuing their higher studies abroad. Ananya Chiraya is doing masters in Biochemistry at University of Saskatchewan. Sonali Koundal, another student of Integrated MSc (Hons) programme is pursuing Ph.D in Agricultural Sciences with a fellowship at Western Sydney University, Australia. Avninder received Research Assistantship at University of Texas Rio Grande Valley USA. Harshdeep Kaur is also pursuing higher studies in UK.
