Brief Introduction

Dr Gurteg Singh Uppal is currently serving as Principal Fruit Scientist in the Department of Fruit Science at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. He has made significant contributions to the PAU Package of Practices for fruit crops, with 16 recommendations that include seven fruit varieties, one rootstock, and eight fruit production technologies. He has published 60 research papers, four e-books, four book chapters, 100 extension articles, and five extension bulletins. He has conducted 20 vocational trainings and 110 short-term training programs for farmers and farm women. Additionally, he has organized 50 on-farm trials and 80 demonstrations on various fruit production technologies. His outreach includes 20 television talks, 15 radio talks, and 125 invited lectures during various trainings. In academics, he has guided three M.Sc. and one Ph.D. student as a major advisor in the discipline of Fruit Science. He has also served on the advisory committees of 12 postgraduate students and mentored nine undergraduate students. He has taught courses for about 90 credit hours to undergraduate and postgraduate students and authored two practical manuals for UG classes. He has been recognized with four awards for best paper presentations during different national and international conferences.

  • Received ‘SardarSwarn SinghVirk Memorial Award’ in 2021 from BaagwanPrivaar Club in recognition of farmer’s service for the state at Kotakapura, Faridkot.
  • Received Crop Research Award and best M.Sc. paper award for the year 2004 by Agricultural Research Information Center (Gaurav Society Rgd), Hisar.
  • Received one best oral presentation award in international citrus congress in 2023 and three national awards in oral/poster presentation 2012 and 2016, 2025, respectively.
