Brief Introduction

Completed B.Sc. Agriculture (Hons.) in 2001 and M.Sc. (Soil Science) in 2003 from PAU.  Dr Mavi did his  Ph.D. (Soil Science) in 2012 from the University of Adelaide, Australia. Joined PAU in 2005 as Assistant Soil Chemist in the AICRP on STCR and developed fertilizer prescription models for achieving targeted yield for different field crops and refined existing P fertilizer recommendations under the maize-wheat & rice-wheat systems. He initiated work on ex-situ mgmt. of surplus rice residue through an international Research project in collaboration with Coromandel International Limited & Aston University, UK, and established the first biochar production plant at PAU. The project figured among the top 5 projects fulfilling the SDGs of UNDP and the Punjab Planning Commission. Additionally, he have also been leading the Soil Salinity scheme in the Department of Soil Science, where we demonstrated the usefulness of microbial bio-formulations, biochar, and yellow gypsum for the reclamation of salt-affected soils. Since 2018, he has been working as a Senior Soil Chemist in the Department of Soil Science, PAU, Ludhiana, and presently, leading the research projects as PI in the areas of AICRP on STCR, amelioration of salt-affected soils, and use of poor-quality water, biochar, and voluntary C markets.
