  • Faculty awards and distinctions:
  1. Dr. Kamal Vatta was honoured with the “ISAE Fellow Award” for his lifetime contributions to agricultural economics and rural development during the 84th Annual Conference of the Indian Society of Agricultural Economics (ISAE), held at Karaikal, Puducherry, from 11-13 November, 2024.
  2. Dr. Priya Brata Bhoi, Dr. Kamal Vatta, Dr. Pradipkumar Adhale, Dr. Sunny Kumar, and Dr. Kashish Arora received the NA Mujumdar Award for the best paper presentation for their research paper titled “Analysing India’s trade balance of horticultural commodities: trends and policy implications,” in the 84th Annual Conference of the Indian Society of Agricultural Economics (ISAE), held at Karaikal, Puducherry, from 11-13 November , 2024.
  3. Dr. Laishram Priscilla was conferred the Dr. Anamitra Saha Prize Award, 2023, by the Indian Society of Agricultural Economics.  
  4. Dr. S. M. Mouzam won the Dr. R. T. Doshi second prize for the best presentation of the paper titled “India’s role in LIFDCs food security during pandemic” at the 30th Annual Conference held at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKAUST-J), J&K, from 21–23 December 2022. 
  5. Dr. Gaganpreet Kaur was presented with an Award of Honour at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Samrala, on 11 November 2022, during the Kisan Mela on the theme crop residue management. 
  6. Dr. Sunny Kumar, Dr. Kashish Arora, and Dr. Kamal Vatta received the best paper award (first prize) in oral presentation for a paper entitled “Performance of SARIMAX and NARX model in predicting tomato prices in India” at the First ISADP Conference on “Challenges of Indian agriculture” by PAU Ludhiana from 21–22 March 2022. 
  7. Dr. Sangeet Ranguwal won second prize for the best paper presented at the 1st Annual Conference of the Indian Society of Agricultural Development and Policy (ISADP), held at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, on 21–22 March 2022. 
  8. Dr. Sanjeev Kumar won a gold medal in Ph.D. (Agricultural Economics) at the 11th Annual Convocation held at Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan, on 7th December 2021. 
  9. Dr. Poonam Kataria and Dr. Kashish Arora received the best poster presentation award at the National Symposium on ‘Scientific interventions to address challenges for sustainable buffalo production’ of the Indian Society for Buffalo Development (ISBD), GADVASU, Ludhiana, 10–11 December 2021. 
  10. Dr. Sangeet Ranguwal and Dr. Gaganpreet Kaur received the best paper award at the International Conference on Entrepreneurship and Small Business: Opportunities and Challenges, sponsored by ICSSR, New Delhi, under the IMPRESS scheme and organized by the School of Social Sciences, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, on 26–27 August 2021.
  11. Dr. Harsimranjeet Kaur Mavi received the best poster award for a poster presented at the International Science Festival, 2020, Agricultural Science Meet, organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, GOI, on 23–24 December 2020.

  1. Other Important Activities:
  1. The department provides the data regarding Cost of Cultivation (COC) of the principal crops viz. wheat, paddy, and cotton to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. This information is used by the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices and the Government to fix these crops’ Minimum Support Price (MSP) every year.
  2. The department provides feedback regarding various policy issues related to agricultural development to the State Government and the Government of India occasionally.
