College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology / Farm Machinery & Power Engineering / Important Achievements

Important Achievements:

  1. PAU ESTABLISHES REMOTE PILOT TRAINING ORAGANIZATION (RPTO) FOR IMPARTING DRONE TRAINING Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has established a Remote Pilot Training Organization (RPTO) to provide certified drone training in agriculture and allied sectors. This initiative aims to equip students, farmers, and professionals with essential skills for operating drones under DGCA guidelines. The RPTO will offer hands-on training in aerial mapping, spraying, and data collection for precision farming. By promoting drone literacy, PAU is fostering technological advancement and sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
  2. PAU ESTABLISHES PAU-TAFE LEARNING CENTRE (ADVANCE FARM MACHINERY)PAU-TAFE LEARNING CENTRE (ADVANCE FARM MACHINERY) has been established at the Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, PAU, Ludhiana, under a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed between Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, and Tractors and Farm Equipment (TAFE) Limited, Chennai, for cooperation in agricultural research and education. The centre serves as a demonstration hub for advanced technologies and promotes regular institution-industry interaction through visits and expert lectures by experienced faculty and professionals on different technical aspects. The centre stands as a testament to industry-institution collaboration, fostering innovation and strengthening practical skill development among students.
  3. PAU DEVELOPED REMOTE CONTROLLED PADDY TRANSPLANTERA remote-control system has been developed for a two-wheel paddy transplanter to improve ergonomics and operational efficiency. The system allows the operator to operate the machine from outside the puddled field, eliminating direct exposure to harsh field and weather conditions. Field trials showed a 10–12% rise in field capacity, attributed to improved and consistent forward speed. Operator fatigue was reduced by 85% in terms of energy expenditure rate and human postural analysis, and total labor requirements dropped by 40%.
  4. PAU GRANTED PATENT ON BIOMASS INCORPORATORDepartment of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering has been granted a patent for an invention entitled “Biomass Incorporator” for the term of 20 years in accordance with the provisions of the Patents Act, 1970. The Biomass Incorporator was developed in the department under the Doctoral project.
  5. PUNJAB AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY SIGNS MoA FOR MAT TYPE NURSERY SEEDER TECHNOLOGYPunjab Agricultural University (PAU) has inked a pact with M/s Rajarh Agricultural Works, Mullanpur Dakha, District Ludhiana, for the commercialization of mat-type nursery seeder. The machine can sow mat-type nursery for transplantation in a paddy field area of 55-60 ha per day. The mat bed thickness varies from 24.1 mm to 26.3 mm. The fuel consumption rate for the machine is about 4.5 l/h. The labour required with the machine is 0.67-0.72 man-h/ha. There is a cost saving of 61.4-64.6% and labour saving of 91.0-91.6% as compared to the conventional manual method of mat-type nursery sowing.
  6. PUNJAB AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY SIGNS MoA FOR BIOMASS INCORPORATORPunjab Agricultural University (PAU) has inked a pact with M/s Rajarh Agricultural Works, Mullanpur Dakha, District Ludhiana, for the commercialization of Biomass Incorporator (Modified Mould Board Plough with Clod Crusher). The machine simultaneously performs the function of mould board plough, along with breaking big soil clods. This reduces the number of secondary tillage machinery operations needed for seedbed preparation. It can also be used to incorporate the chopped green manure/biomass into the soil for improvement in soil health. The machine can be operated with 50 and above hp tractor. The field capacity of the machine is 0.25-0.28 ha/h at a forward speed of 3.5 km/h. The soil pulverization index with the machine is 9.0-9.7 mm, whereas for the conventional mould board plough it is 20.7-21.10 mm. The mixing index or bury efficiency (for green manuring) is 94.9-98.8%.
  7. PUNJAB AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY SIGNS MoA FOR PAU SMART SEEDER TECHNOLOGYThe Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has inked a pact with Ten manufacturers for PAU Smart seeder Technolgy. This machine is developed by the university. PAU smart seeder manages the paddy residue by incorporation & surface mulching and thus, smartly retains the benefits of both Happy Seeder and Super Seeder in a single machine. PAU Smart Seeder places wheat seeds in a well-tilled narrow band of soil and covers the seed rows with soil, using furrow closing rollers. This machine can be operated with a 45 to 50 hp tractor. The field capacity and fuel consumption of the machine is 0.4 ha/h and 5.5 l/acre, respectively.
