History

1906
Our lineage

PAU traces its academic origin to the Punjab Agriculture College and Research Institute, Lyallpur (1906), re‑established post‑Partition at Amritsar and then shifted to Ludhiana in 1949, moving to the present site in 1957 before university status in 1962.

Punjab Agricultural University

Punjab agricultural university Established in 1962 to serve the state of erstwhile Punjab

1967
First Kisan Mela in the country

1967 - The first agricultural University in the country to initiate the concept of Kisan melas. These Melas are regularly held twice a year at Ludhiana in March and September.

Green Revolution

In 1970, Haryana Agricultural University carved out by an Act of Parliament

Adjudged as Best Agricultural University

In 1995, was adjudged as Best Agricultural University in India

College of Veterinary Sciences

In 2006, the College of Veterinary Sciences upgraded as Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Science University at Ludhiana

School of Agricultural Biotechnology established

College of Horticulture & Forestry (COHF) established

PAU-College of Agriculture, Ballowal Saunkhri established

It is the youngest college of the six constituent colleges of Punjab Agricultural University

The Gurdev Singh Khush Institute of Genetics established

The Gurdev Singh Khush Institute of Genetics, Plant Breeding, and Biotechnology has been established to advance the integration of Agricultural Biotechnology with breeding programs across vegetables, fruits, field crops, and perennial trees.
