KVK KAPURTHALA ORGANISED FIVE VILLAGE LEVEL AWARENESS CAMPS ON PADDY RESIDUE MANAGEMENT

Kapurthala district has emerged as one of the leading districts in Punjab with the lowest number of farm fire cases reported during the last year. To maintain and strengthen this positive trend, Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kapurthala, organized a series of five village-level awareness camps on paddy residue management. The programmes were conducted in the villages of Mithra, Talwandi Pai, Butala, Mauli, and Karahal Naubad on 12th August, 14th August, 20th August, 26th August, and 19th September 2025, respectively.

During these awareness programmes, the crucial role of KVK in promoting sustainable practices for paddy straw management was highlighted. Farmers were encouraged to share their feedback and practical experiences, which helped in enriching the discussions.

Experts from PAU–KVK Kapurthala delivered technical lectures focusing on the harmful impacts of paddy residue burning on soil health, environment, and human health. They also educated the farmers about in-situ and ex-situ management techniques as well as alternate uses of paddy straw, including its utility in mushroom cultivation, biogas generation, and preparation of organic manure.

Notably, progressive farmers who have successfully implemented paddy residue management practices over the years shared their experiences and inspired fellow farmers to adopt eco-friendly methods.

As a part of the initiative, winter vegetable seed kits and technical literature were distributed among the farmers to promote diversified and sustainable agricultural practices.

The efforts of KVK Kapurthala in conducting these awareness camps underline its commitment to reducing farm fires and promoting environmentally friendly farming methods, thereby contributing to cleaner air, healthier soils, and sustainable agriculture in the district.
