Gold Medals/Medals Instituted for Students
University has instituted a number of Gold Medals/Medals for award to the students on fulfillment of certain prescribed conditions. These Gold medals/medals are conferred at the time of Annual Convocation of the University or Prize Distribution Function-cum-Convocation of the respective colleges. The detail is as under:

Dr S.K. Gosal Memorial Medal has been instituted by Dr S.S. Gosal, Former Director of Research and currently, the Vice Chancellor, PAU, Ludhiana, in the memory of his wife late Dr Satwant Kaur Gosal, Former Professor, Department of Microbiology, PAU. This medal is awarded to Ph.D. pass out student from Department of Microbiology, securing highest OCPA (not less than 8.00 out of 10.00) and having specialization in the field of Soil Microbiology during Ph.D.
This Medal has been instituted by Dr Surjit Singh, Retired Senior Extension Scientist, Agronomy, PAU in the name of his wife Sardarni Manjit Kaur. This medal is awarded to a Ph.D. student from Department of Agronomy, securing highest OCPA and having Specialization in the field of Agronomy.
This Medal for Excellence in Zoology has been instituted by thirty three alumni of College of Basic Sciences & Humanities, PAU. This medal is awarded to one pass-out student of Ph.D. Zoology for obtaining the highest OCPA.
Shri Kashmir Singh Dhillon Medal has been instituted by Dr Tarsem Singh Dhillon, Head, Department of Vegetable Science, PAU in the memory of his late father Shri Kashmir Singh Dhillon. This medal is awarded to the student obtaining the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) in Ph.D. Programme in the discipline of Vegetable Science.
This Medal has been instituted by Dr (Mrs.) Parveen Chhuneja, Principal Geneticist-cum-Director, School of Agricultural Biotechnology, PAU in the name of Dr. Darshan Singh Brar Medal with cash prize of ` 5000/-. This medal is awarded to only one pass-out Ph.D. student every year, securing highest OCPA but not less than 8.00/10.00 in the discipline of Biotechnology/Molecular Biology and Biotechnology.
This medal has been named after Dr Jugraj Singh Dhillon, a renowned Animal Breeder who served PAU as Dean, College of Veterinary Sciences and strived hard throughout his professional career towards improving the quality of teaching and research, laying a great
emphasis on holistic development of students through co-curricular activities. This medal is awarded to a student who is adjudged as the Best All Round Student in Master’s programme of PAU for an academic year.
Sardar Kartar Singh Kahlon was a great agriculturist who contributed immensely to the development of Horticulture in Punjab and reclamation of large tracts of waste land in the state. This Medal is awarded to the student who is adjudged as the Best All Round Student in M.Sc. (Agri.) in the University.
Dr AS Atwal was a great Entomologist who introduced Italian honey bee into India. He was Dean, College of Agriculture twice and also served as Dean, Postgraduate Studies of PAU. He was the founder president of Indian Ecological Society. This Medal is awarded to the Best Student of the University adjudged on the basis of academic achievements including the quality of research work of M.Sc./M.Tech/5 years integrated M.Sc. (Hons) will be eligible who have cleared all the listed courses of first 3 years (6 semesters). 2025-26
Dr M S Randhawa was an eminent scientist, administrator, educationist, art critic and lover of nature and sports. This University owes special debt of gratitude to him for taking it to International standards. The faculty and students cherish the memory of this leader as Vice Chancellor. This medal is awarded to the student who writes the Best Essay on ‘Evolution of Life’.
Dr Gurmail Singh Dhaliwal, former Professor of Ecology, PAU, Ludhiana, is a renowned Entomologist and Ecologist. He has authored/edited a number of books on different aspects of pest management, environment and sustainable agriculture. This Medal is awarded to All Round Best M.Sc. Entomology student with OCPA of not less than 8.00. 2025-26
Dr Bhupinder Singh Sekhon was the Head, Department of Biochemistry and Chemistry, PAU, Ludhiana, and was a renowned Chemist. This medal is awarded to the student with highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) based on the joint merit of the students of M.Sc. Chemistry and Five Year Integrated M.Sc. Chemistry (Hons) Programme.
Dr H S Toor served as Professor and Head, Department of Zoology, PAU, Ludhiana, and was a dedicated teacher. He was instrumental in introducing the concept of Agricultural Ornithology and also in setting up of the Fish Farm as part of Department of Zoology in PAU. This medal is awarded to the All Round Best M.Sc. Zoology student with OCPA of not less than 8.00.
Dr S D Khepar was the founder Head of the Dept. of Soil and Water Engineering, an eminent scientist who served as Dean, College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, and later became National Professor of ICAR. This medal is awarded to the student who secures the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) in M.Tech. (Soil and Water Engineering).
The Medal is instituted by the Alumni batch of B.Sc. (Hons) programme (1970-74) of Chemistry/ Biochemistry. It is awarded to the student obtaining highest OCPA in M.Sc./Five Year Integrated M.Sc. (Hons) programme in Chemistry/Biochemistry.
The medal has been named after Sardar Harpreet Singh Kalsy who did his MBA from PAU in 1985. He served as Managing Partner in the firm H S Balbir and Bros, G.T. Road, Ludhiana for about 34 years. This medal is awarded to the student who secures the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) in MBA (Agri-Business Management) Programme.
Dr T S Thind served as Additional Director of Research and was a renowned Plant Pathologist. This medal is awarded to the student securing highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) in M.Sc. Plant Pathology.
Dr Ranjit Singh Dhanda served as Head, Department of Forestry & Natural Resources. This medal is awarded for Overall Best Masters’ Student and also for securing highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) in M.Sc. Forestry & Natural Resources.
Kishan Singh Dhaliwal Memorial Medal has been instituted by Dr Jit Singh Dhaliwal, former Senior Entomologist, Department of Entomology, in the memory of his father late S. Kishan Singh Dhaliwal. This medal is awarded to the student for securing highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) in M.Sc. Entomology.
Chawla Memorial Maize Research and Development Medal has been instituted by Dr Jasbir Singh Chawla, former Principal Maize Breeder, Department of Plant Breeding & Genetics in the memory of his parents. This medal is awarded to the student obtaining the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) in M.Sc. pass out in a calendar year.
Sardarni Sujan Kaur Memorial Medal has been instituted by Dr Amanpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor of Sociology, Department of Economics & Sociology. This Medal is awarded to a student obtaining highest OCPA based on the joint merit in M.Sc. Agricultural Economics/Sociology programme.
This Medal has been instituted by Mr. Avtar Singh Dhindsa in the name of Dr A P S Gill. This medal is awarded to M.Sc. student who secures the highest OCPAin M.Sc. Horticulture (Floriculture & Landscaping).
This Medal has been instituted by Sh. Harpreet Singh in the memory of his late father Dr Dalip Singh Sidhu. This medal is awarded to M.Sc. student in discipline of Agricultural Economics, securing highest OCPA.
