Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) strengthened its soil and water testing capabilities by organising a two-day specialised training programme on “Analytical Techniques for Soil and Water Testing” for teachers and technical staff of Soil Testing Laboratories from Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and PAU research stations. The programme was jointly organised by the Department of Soil Science and the Directorate of Extension Education, and held from December 18 to 19, 2025.
The inaugural session commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Kuldip Singh, who greeted the Chief Guest Dr. G.P.S. Sodhi, Additional Director of Extension Education, along with Dr. Rajeev Sikka, Head, Department of Soil Science, faculty members, and participating trainees. As a mark of respect, Dr. Sikka formally welcomed the Chief Guest by presenting a potted plant.
In his address, Dr. Rajeev Sikka underscored the importance of precision and accuracy in soil and water analysis, noting that laboratory results form the scientific foundation for fertiliser recommendations, soil health management, and environmental safety. He emphasised that reliable analytical practices are crucial for sustainable agricultural decision-making.
Addressing the participants, Dr. G.P.S. Sodhi described the training as one of the most sought-after programmes in recent times, given the increasing demand for high-quality soil and water testing in the context of sustainable agriculture, soil health restoration, and efficient natural resource management. He appreciated the initiative taken by the Department of Soil Science and encouraged participants to implement the updated analytical techniques in their respective laboratories for the benefit of farmers and other stakeholders.
The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Vivek Sharma, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, faculty members, and participants for their enthusiastic participation and support, which contributed to the success of the programme.
