Under the guidance of the Director of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, the Farm Advisory Service Centre (FASC), Sangrur organized a farmers’ meeting at village Sakrodi. The deliberations focused on protecting the standing wheat crop from the anticipated rise in temperature, integrated management of insects and diseases, and improvement of soil health.
Dr. Ashok Kumar Garg, In-charge and Senior Extension Scientist of the centre, informed the farmers that temperatures above the optimum level can adversely affect wheat, a phenomenon known as heat stress. He explained that excessive heat during the grain filling period forces the crop to mature early, resulting in shriveled grains and reduced grain weight. Potash plays a vital role in minimizing this stress.
Referring to PAU recommendations, he advised two sprays of 2% potassium nitrate (4 kg of 13:0:45 in 200 litres of water). The first spray should be applied at the flag leaf stage and the second at ear emergence. These sprays help increase grain weight and the number of grains per spike, thereby enhancing overall yield.
For improving soil health, Dr. Garg urged farmers to grow green manure crops such as sunhemp and dhaincha after harvesting wheat. He emphasized soil testing, proper in-situ management of crop residues, and the use of organic manures to improve soil organic matter.
The farmers were also apprised of the services provided by the centre, including the sale of kharif crop seeds after PAU farmers’ fairs, availability of farm literature, vegetable seed kits, bio-fertilizer cultures, and other inputs. Queries raised by farmers regarding the use of nano urea, boron requirement, and the correct procedure for soil sampling was answered satisfactorily.
After the meeting, visits were made to the wheat fields of S. Beant Singh and other farmers, as well as the onion crop of Manjinder Singh. On-the-spot solutions to various field problems were provided.

ਪੰਜਾਬ ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ ਦੇ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਪਸਾਰ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੀ ਯੋਗ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਹੇਠ ਫਾਰਮ ਸਲਾਹਕਾਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੇਂਦਰ, ਸੰਗਰੂਰ ਨੇ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਕਣਕ ਨੂੰ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਗਰਮੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਅ, ਕੀੜ੍ਹੇ-ਮਕੌੜਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਬਿਮਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਵ-ਪੱਖੀ ਰੋਕਥਾਮ, ਭੂਮੀ ਸਿਹਤ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਨੁਕਤੇ ਆਦਿ ਤੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਸਕਰੌਦੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਗੋਸ਼ਟੀ ਲਗਾਈ। ਕੇਂਦਰ ਦੇ ਇੰਚਾਰਜ ਅਤੇ ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਪਸਾਰ ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀ ਡਾ. ਅਸ਼ੋਕ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਗਰਗ ਨੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਤਾਪਮਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਅ ਲਈ ਕਣਕ ਦੀ ਫ਼ਸਲ ਤੇ ਪੋਟਾਸ਼ੀਅਮ ਨਾਈਟ੍ਰੇਟ ਦੇ ਛਿੜਕਾਅ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਵਿਸਥਾਰਪੂਰਵਕ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਲੋੜੀਂਦੇ ਤਾਪਮਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਗਰਮੀ ਕਣਕ ਦੀ ਫ਼ਸਲ ਲਈ ਹਾਨੀਕਾਰਕ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਗਰਮੀ ਦਾ ਤਣਾਅ ਜਾਂ ਹੀਟ ਸਟਰੈੱਸ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਵੱਧ ਗਰਮੀ ਕਰਕੇ ਦਾਣੇ ਭਰਨ ਸਮੇਂ ਕਣਕ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਪੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਣੇ ਮਾਜੂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਸੋਕੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਦਾਣਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਭਾਰ ਘੱਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਤਣਾਅ ਉੱਪਰ ਕਾਬੂ ਪਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਪੋਟਾਸ਼ ਤੱਤ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪੀ.ਏ.ਯੂ. ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕਣਕ ਦੀ ਫ਼ਸਲ ਨੂੰ ਅਖੀਰਲੇ ਗਰਮੀ ਦੇ ਤਣਾਅ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਦਾਣੇ ਭਰਨ ਸਮੇਂ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਧ ਝਾੜ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ 2 ਪ੍ਰਤੀਸ਼ਤ ਪੋਟਾਸ਼ੀਅਮ ਨਾਈਟ੍ਰੇਟ (4 ਕਿੱਲੋ 13:0:45 ਨੂੰ 200 ਲਿਟਰ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ) ਦੇ ਦੋ ਛਿੜਕਾਅ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਗੋਭ ਵਾਲਾ ਪੱਤਾ ਨਿਕਲਣ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਬੂਰ ਪੈਣ ਸਮੇਂ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਿਫਾਰਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਛਿੜਕਾਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਦਾਣਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਜ਼ਨ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਸਿੱਟਾ ਦਾਣਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵੱਧਣ ਨਾਲ ਕਣਕ ਦੇ ਝਾੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਧਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭੂਮੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਹਤ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਲਈ ਡਾ. ਅਸ਼ੋਕ ਨੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਣਕ ਦੀ ਵਾਢੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਹਰੀ ਖਾਦ ਦੀਆਂ ਫਸਲਾਂ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਸਣ, ਢੈਚਾਂ/ਜੰਤਰ ਆਦਿ ਬੀਜਣ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਪਰਖ਼ ਕਰਵਾ ਕੇ ਭੂਮੀ ਦਾ ਜੈਵਿਕ ਮਾਦਾ ਸੁਧਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਫਸਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦ-ਖੂੰਹਦ ਨੂੰ ਖੇਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਸੰਭਾਲਣ ਬਾਰੇ, ਜੈਵਿਕ ਖਾਦਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਕੀਤੇ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੈਂਟਰ ਵਲੋਂ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਸਹੂਲਤਾਂ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਮੇਲਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਸਾਉਣੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਫ਼ਸਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੀਜਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿੱਕਰੀ, ਖੇਤੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਦੀ ਵਿੱਕਰੀ, ਸਬਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਬੀਜ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਿੱਟਾਂ, ਜੈਵਿਕ ਖਾਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਟੀਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਬਾਰੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ। ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਪੁੱਛੇ ਗਏ ਸਵਾਲਾਂ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਨੈਨੋ ਯੂਰੀਏ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਦੇ ਫਾਇਦੇ ਜਾਂ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ, ਬੋਰੋਨ ਤੱਤ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ, ਮਿੱਟੀ ਪਰਖ ਲਈ ਨਮੂਨੇ ਲੈਣ ਦਾ ਢੰਗ ਆਦਿ ਦੇ ਤਸੱਲੀਬਖਸ਼ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਗਏ।
ਗੋਸ਼ਟੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਸ. ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਣਕ ਅਤੇ ਮਨਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਜ਼ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੌਰਾ ਵੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਹੀ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਖੇਤੀ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਿਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਲ ਵੀ ਦੱਸੇ ਗਏ।
