The Department of Vegetable Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized an online webinar on “Nursery Raising and Cultivation of Summer Season Vegetables” under the guidance of the Directorate of Extension Education. A total of 34 farmers participated in the webinar.
Dr Sat Pal Sharma, Head, Department of Vegetable Science, highlighted the importance of crop diversification and explained how vegetable cultivation helped conserve natural resources and increased farmers’ income. He also spoke about the nutritional value of vegetables.
During the technical session, the experts gave detailed guidance on recommended varieties and scientific cultivation practices of major summer vegetables.
Dr Mamta Pathak explained the suitable varieties of bitter gourd and okra, and shared the correct techniques for their successful cultivation.
Dr Rajinder Kumar Dhall discussed improved cucumber varieties and the production methods required to achieve better yield and quality.
Dr Dilpreet Talwar focused on healthy nursery raising and guided the participants on the preparation of disease-free, vigorous seedlings.
Further, Dr Salesh Kumar Jindal explained important agronomic practices for chilli and tomato, including proper field preparation, correct sowing time, seed rate, irrigation scheduling and weed management.
Dr Mohinder Kaur Sidhu shared practical tips on cultivating brinjal and sponge gourd, highlighting sowing time, nursery preparation and irrigation needs.
Dr Naveen Garg discussed recommended watermelon varieties and their cultivation practices, while Dr Prerna Thakur explained key agronomic practices needed for muskmelon production.
Lastly, Dr Prakash Mahala detailed the recommended cultivation techniques for bottle gourd, covering sowing time, input use and field management.
During their lectures, Dr Harpal Singh Bhullar and Dr Rupeet Gill discussed plant protection measures for summer vegetables, focusing on major insect pests, diseases and their effective management.
In the concluding session, Dr. Navjot Singh Brar shared success stories of progressive vegetable growers and proposed the vote of thanks. He encouraged farmers to increase the area under vegetables for better income and sustainable agriculture.

ਬੀਤੇ ਦਿਨੀਂ ਪੀ.ਏ.ਯੂ. ਦੇ ਸਬਜ਼ੀ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਗਰਮ ਰੁੱਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਬਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਕਾਸ਼ਤ ਅਤੇ ਪਨੀਰੀ ਉਤਪਾਦਨ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟੋਰੇਟ ਪਸਾਰ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਰਾਨੀ ਹੇਠ ਇਕ ਵੈਬੀਨਾਰ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਵੈਬੀਨਾਰ ਵਿਚ 34 ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਨਲਾਈਨ ਭਾਗੀਦਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਡਾ. ਸਤਪਾਲ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ ਨੇ ਖੇਤੀ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਲਈ ਸਬਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਹੱਤਵ ਉੱਪਰ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਪਾਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਦਰਸਾਇਆ ਕਿ ਸਬਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਿਰਫ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੀ ਪੌਸ਼ਕਤਾ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਬਲਕਿ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਸਰੋਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸਾਨੀ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਮਦਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਾਧੇ ਦਾ ਸਰੋਤ ਵੀ ਬਣਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਤਕਨੀਕੀ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਮਾਹਿਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਕੀਤੇ। ਡਾ. ਮਮਤਾ ਪਾਠਕ ਨੇ ਕਰੇਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਭਿੰਡੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਸ਼ਤ ਤਕਨੀਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਡਾ. ਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਢੱਲ ਨੇ ਖੀਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਕਾਸ਼ਤ ਅਤੇ ਝਾੜ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਢੰਗ ਦੱਸੇ। ਡਾ. ਦਿਲਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਤਲਵਾੜ ਨੇ ਸਿਹਤਮੰਦ ਨਰਸਰੀ ਦੇ ਉਤਪਾਦਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਲਾਭ ਲੈਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੂਚਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ। ਡਾ. ਸਲੇਸ਼ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਜਿੰਦਲ ਨੇ ਮਿਰਚਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਟਮਾਟਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਾਸ਼ਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਉੱਨਤ ਤਕਨੀਕਾਂ ਸਾਂਝੀਆਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ। ਡਾ. ਮਹਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਸਿੱਧੂ ਨੇ ਬੈਂਗਣ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਮਤੌਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਮੇਂ ਸਿਰ ਬਿਜਾਈ, ਬਿਮਾਰੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਕੀੜਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਨੁਕਤੇ ਦੱਸੇ। ਡਾ. ਨਵੀਨ ਗਰਗ ਨੇ ਹਦਵਾਣੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਸ਼ਤ ਤਕਨੀਕਾਂ ਉੱਪਰ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਪਾਇਆ। ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਡਾ. ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਨੇ ਖਰਬੂਜ਼ੇ ਦੀ ਕਾਸ਼ਤ ਅਤੇ ਡਾ. ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਮਾਹਲਾ ਨੇ ਲੌਕੀ ਦੀ ਸਫਲ ਕਾਸ਼ਤ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਡਾ. ਹਰਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਭੁੱਲਰ ਅਤੇ ਡਾ. ਰੁਪੀਤ ਗਿੱਲ ਨੇ ਕ੍ਰਮਵਾਰ ਸਬਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਕੀੜਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਬਿਮਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਫਲ ਰੋਕਥਾਮ ਦੇ ਨੁਕਤੇ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਕੀਤੇ।
ਆਖਰੀ ਸ਼ੈਸਨ ਵਿਚ ਡਾ. ਨਵਜੋਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਰਾੜ ਨੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਫਲਤਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਸਾਂਝੀਆਂ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ।
