Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has inked a pact with Guru HydraulicWorks based at Ludhiana for licensing of Manual Nursery Cutter. Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt, Director of Research, PAU and Mr Gurpreet Singh from Guru Hydraulics Works signed the Memorandum of Agreement on behalf of their respective organizations. Dr Khushdeep Dharni, Associate Director Technology Marketing and IPR Cell; Dr Mahesh Kumar Narang, Dr Shiv Kumar Lohan and Dr Anand Gautam were also present on the occasion.
Dr Lohan, Scientist of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, informed that the nursery cutter has been developed under the ICAR–AICRP on Ergonomics and Safety in Agriculture and allied sector in the Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, PAU, Ludhiana. The initiative addresses the significant ergonomic challenges associated with cutting mat-type paddy nurseries for mechanical transplanting—tasks that traditionally expose farm workers to high physical strain and health risks, he added.
Designed using ergonomic principles aligned with the anthropometric characteristics of Indian agricultural workers, the manual nursery cutter demonstrated a cutting capacity of 325–425 nursery mats per hour with uniform cutting quality, he said. Economic evaluation revealed substantial cost savings over other prevalent methods. The developed manual nursery cutter enhances productivity and timeliness while reducing operator fatigue and health risks, he observed.
Dr Dharni stated that the MoU will facilitate large scale manufacturing, leading to dissemination of this farmer friendly technology. This effort will contribute towards safe and efficient paddy nursery management, he added.

ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਡਾ. ਖੁਸ਼ਦੀਪ ਧਰਨੀ, ਡਾ. ਮਹੇਸ਼ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਨਾਰੰਗ, ਡਾ. ਸ਼ਿਵ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਲੋਹਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਡਾ. ਆਨੰਦ ਗੌਤਮ ਵੀ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਸਨ।
ਖੇਤ ਮਸ਼ੀਨਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਵਰ ਇੰਜਨੀਅਰਿੰਗ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮਾਹਿਰ ਡਾ. ਸ਼ਿਵ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਲੋਹਾਨ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਝੋਨਾ ਲਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਟਰਾਂਸਪਲਾਂਟਰ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਚੱਜੀ ਲਵਾਈ ਲਈ ਮੈਟ ਟਾਈਪ ਪਨੀਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਪੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਕੱਟਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਇਹ ਕੰਮ ਕੈਂਚੀ ਨਾਲ ਹੱਥੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ। ਖੇਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਬਾਰੇ ਆਈ ਸੀ ਏ ਆਰ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਯੋਜਿਤ ਸਰਵ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਖੋਜ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟ ਤਹਿਤ ਖੇਤ ਮਸ਼ੀਨਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਵਰ ਇੰਜਨੀਅਰਿੰਗ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਕਟਰ ਮਸ਼ੀਨ ਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਾਣ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਖਤਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਸ਼ੱਕਤ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੰਮ ਨੂੰ ਸੌਖਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਕ ਕੁਸ਼ਲ ਮਸ਼ੀਨ ਚਾਲਕ ਹਰ ਘੰਟੇ ਵਿਚ 325 ਤੋਂ 425 ਮੈਟ ਇਸ ਮਸ਼ੀਨ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਕੱਟ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀ ਬੱਚਤ, ਕੰਮ ਛੇਤੀ ਹੋਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਖਤਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਕਾਰਜ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਜਾਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
