The PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, under the aegis of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, and ICAR-ATARI, Zone-1, Ludhiana, celebrated ‘World Pulses Day’ in collaboration with Department of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, SBS Nagar on 12.2.2026. A total of 45 farmers participated in the programme, which focused on imparting practical knowledge and scientific practices to enhance pulses productivity.
During the event, Dr. Pardeep Kumar, Deputy Director (Training), KVK Nawanshahr, delivered an informative lecture on the theme “Production technology of pulses for improved soil and human health.” He highlighted the combination of growing pulse and cereal crops to improve soil health, reduce input costs, and achieve sustainable yields. As per recommendation of WHO, he also suggested to intake 40-80 gram pulses per person to ensure adequate protein and nutritional need.
Dr. Kumar elaborates that the organic carbon in soils of SBS Nagar ranges from 0.4 to 0.6 %. The soil health in terms of improvement in soil fertility with respect to increase in macro and micro nutrients and soil organic carbon can be achieved by pulses production, which ensures biological fixation of atmospheric nitrogen thereby cutting the fertilizer application cost of urea.
The farmers actively interacted during the session, raising queries related to pulses-specific nutrient management, new technologies, and government schemes on pulses cultivation. Officials from Department of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare SBS Nagar also shared insights on the cultivation of pulses and encouraged farmers to adopt improved practices for better profitability.
The programme concluded with an assurance from KVK SBS Nagar to continue extending technical support and guidance to farmers through regular training programmes, demonstrations, and awareness campaigns.

ਪੀਏਯੂ-ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਕੇਂਦਰ, ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਗਰ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ (ਪੀਏਯੂ), ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਈ ਸੀ ਏ ਆਰ-ਅਟਾਰੀ, ਜ਼ੋਨ-1, ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਹੇਠ 12.2.2026 ਨੂੰ ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਭਲਾਈ ਵਿਭਾਗ, ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਗਰ ਦੇ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਨਾਲ ‘ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਦਾਲਾਂ ਦਿਵਸ’ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ।ਕੁੱਲ 45 ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਲਿਆ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਾਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਤਪਾਦਕਤਾ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ।
ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੌਰਾਨ, ਕੇਵੀਕੇ ਨਵਾਂਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਡਿਪਟੀ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ (ਸਿਖਲਾਈ) ਡਾ. ਪ੍ਰਦੀਪ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੇ “ਦਾਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਾਸ਼ਤ ਅਤੇ ਉਤਪਾਦਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਗਿਆਨਵਰਧਕ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦਿੱਤਾ।ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਹਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁਧਾਰ, ਲਾਗਤ ਘਟਾਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਟਿਕਾਊ ਉਪਜ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਦਾਲਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਅਨਾਜ ਦੀਆਂ ਫਸਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਮੇਲ ‘ਤੇ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਪਾਇਆ। ਡਬਲਯੂ ਐੱਚ ਓ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਾਰਸ਼ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਟੀਨ ਅਤੇ ਪੌਸ਼ਟਿਕ ਤੱਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨੂੰ ਯਕੀਨੀ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ 40-80 ਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਦਾਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਨ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਸੁਝਾਅ ਵੀ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਡਾ. ਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੇ ਵਿਸਥਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਗਰ ਦੀ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੈਵਿਕ ਕਾਰਬਨ 0.4 ਤੋਂ 0.6% ਤੱਕ ਹੈ। ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦੀ ਉਪਜਾਊ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਦੇ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਹਤ ਦਾਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਤਪਾਦਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਵਧਾਈ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਵਾਯੂਮੰਡਲੀ ਨਾਈਟ੍ਰੋਜਨ ਦੇ ਜੈਵਿਕ ਸਥਿਰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਯਕੀਨੀ ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਯੂਰੀਆ ਦੀ ਲਾਗਤ ਘੱਟਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸਰਗਰਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਕੀਤੀ, ਦਾਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਾਸ਼ਤ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਨਵੀਆਂ ਤਕਨੀਕਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਯੋਜਨਾਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਸਵਾਲ ਉਠਾਏ। ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਭਲਾਈ ਵਿਭਾਗ, ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਗਰ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਦਾਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਾਸ਼ਤ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੂਝ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਹਤਰ ਮੁਨਾਫ਼ੇ ਲਈ ਸੁਧਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਨੁਕਤਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਪਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ।ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੇਵੀਕੇ ਨਵਾਂਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਨਿਯਮਤ ਸਿਖਲਾਈ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮਾਂ, ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਜਾਗਰੂਕਤਾ ਮੁਹਿੰਮਾਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਕਨੀਕੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਰਗਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਜਾਰੀ ਰੱਖਣ ਦੇ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਦਵਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ।
