Punjab Agricultural University, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Gho), Pathankot, organised a Field Day-cum-Training and Awareness Programme on February 5, 2026 at village Chak Manhasa, Pathankot block under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)–funded project “Cluster Front Line Demonstrations (CFLDs) on Biofortified Crop Varieties.” The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Ravinder Singh Chhina, In-charge, PAU-KVK Pathankot.
More than 60 farmers and farm women actively participated in the programme. The main objective of the field day was to create awareness among farmers about scientific crop management practices, production technologies of biofortified crop varieties, sustainable agricultural practices, and nutritional security.
During the programme, Dr. Vinay Pathania, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) elaborated on the importance of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Integrated Disease Management (IDM) in rabi crops. He provided detailed information on the identification of major insect pests and diseases, early diagnostic techniques, eco-friendly management practices, and the judicious use of pesticides to ensure crop quality and human health safety.
Dr. Surinder Singh, Assistant Professor (Animal Science) shared scientific insights on animal nutrition, poultry farming, and goat farming, highlighting crop–livestock integration as an effective approach to enhance farmers’ income. Meanwhile, Dr. Puneet Sharma, Assistant Professor (Soil and Water Engineering) emphasized the efficient use of water, modern irrigation techniques, and the importance of sugarcane processing.
The programme was also attended by progressive farmer Shri Ravinder Singh, Sarpanch Smt. Indu Bala, Block Committee Member Sunita Devi, and Panchayat Member Shri Rajesh Singh, who appreciated the efforts of KVK Pathankot and described such programmes as highly beneficial for the farming community.
At the conclusion of the programme, farmers were encouraged to adopt biofortified crop varieties to achieve nutritional enhancement, sustainable agriculture, and increased farm income.
