A vocational training course on “Scientific Dairy Farming” was organized at the PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur from 05.12.2025 to 15.12.2025 in which 25 farmers/rural youth/rural women participated.
On the inaugural day, Dr. Mandeep Singh, Associate Director (Training), KVK Sangrur extended a warm welcome to the participants and shared the mandates and working of the KVK with them. He highlighted the economic importance and scope of dairy farming as a subsidiary occupation in agriculture and inspired the trainees to adopt dairy farming for enhancing their income and employment. He further urged the trainees to explore the opportunities in processing and value addition of milk to earn enhanced profit.
Dr. Ajay Singh, Assistant Professor (Animal Science) acted as course coordinator and shared the technical knowledge on various aspects of dairy farming. He deliberated on importance of dairy farming, improved breeds of cattle and buffalo, selection of dairy animals, care and management of newly born calves, housing for different age groups of animals, water management, balanced feeding, mineral supplementation, record keeping and artificial insemination, etc.
Dr. Vitasta, Assistant Professor (Home Science), talked about milk processing and value addition of milk and shared various benefits of milk.
Dr. Mukesh Gupta, Veterinary Officer, Sangrur delivered lecture on control of endo & ecto parasites, disease management and vaccination schedule for dairy animals. Sh. Gurmeet Singh, Dairy Development Inspector, Sangrur explained the different government schemes of Dairy Development Board related to dairy farming. Dr. Suryendra Singh, Assistant Professor (Agronomy), KVK, Barnala elaborated about year-round fodder production and quality silage making.
An exposure visit of the trainees was organized at village Gaggarpur where they had a fruitful interaction and learned about construction of scientific dairy shed and upkeeping of dairy animals.
