Under the aegis of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), Ludhiana Chapter, Punjab Agricultural University–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Sangrur organized an awareness programme at KVK, Sangrur. The programme focused on Career Opportunities in the Agriculture Sector and creating awareness among adolescents about the mandates and activities of KVKs. The event witnessed an enthusiastic participation of 100 students from Government Smart High School, Kheri, marking a significant step towards sensitizing the younger generation about agriculture-related careers and scientific interventions.
Dr. Mandeep Singh, Incharge, KVK Sangrur, led the session and highlighted the vast spectrum of career opportunities available in the agricultural sector. He provided detailed information on various degree programmes in agricultural sciences and discussed the changing dynamics of agriculture, emphasizing the role of innovation, mechanization, and modern technologies in shaping the future of the agro-industry. He also elaborated on the mandates of Krishi Vigyan Kendra and created awareness about various subsidiary occupations in agriculture.
Dr. Vitasta, Assistant Professor (Home Science), shared information about the vocational trainings being conducted at KVK and emphasized the importance of a balanced diet during adolescence, a critical stage for physical and mental development. She provided practical guidance on including different food groups in daily diets to ensure optimal growth and overall well-being.
Mrs. Amarpreet Kaur, PA (LT), discussed the significance of soil and water testing for sustainable agriculture. She demonstrated the method of soil testing and explained the role of soil health in enhancing crop productivity and environmental sustainability.
During the event, students visited the Mushroom Unit, Beekeeping Unit, Soil Testing Laboratory, Home Science Laboratory and Paddy Straw based biogas plant,where they gained practical exposure to various agricultural and allied activities.
The awareness programme concluded with an interactive session in which students actively participated and raised queries. Principal Mr. Sparan Kumar Singla, along with the school staff, accompanied the students. The school teachers expressed their gratitude to the KVK faculty for organizing an informative and successful programme for the students.
