Krishi Vigyan Kendra Ropar working under the aegis of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and ICAR-ATARI, Zone-I organized its Annual Scientific Advisory Committee meeting on 05.02.2026. The meeting was conducted under the chairmanship of Dr. Makhan Singh Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana. Dr. G.S. Mangat, Additional Director of Research (Agriculture), PAU, Ludhiana. Dr. P.S. Sandhu, Additional Director of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana co-chaired the meeting. Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Assoc. Director (Trg.), KVK Bahowal (Hoshiarpur), Dr. B.S. Khadda, Deputy Director (Trg.), KVK S.A.S Nagar (Mohali), Dr. Pardeep Kumar, Deputy Director (Trg.), KVK Langroya (S.B.S. Nagar) were the special invitees. Dr. Vijay Kumar, Plant Breeder, RRS Ballowal Saunkhari, Dr. Lekh Raj, Chief Agriculture Officer, Ms. Simran Sethi, DDM NABARD, Sh. Prafull Setia, LDM and other allied departments and progressive farmers and farm women participated in the meeting.
In his remarks, Dr. M.S. Bhullar commended the team’s efforts in making the KVK impactful in the district. He recommended leveraging local media to bridge existing gaps in technology adoption and suggested integrating robust marketing strategies into vocational courses. Furthermore, he emphasized the urgent need to promote resource conservation technologies, specifically focusing on sustainable crop residue management.
Dr. G.S. Mangat praised the KVK team for successfully meeting outreach targets in unreached villages. Moving forward, he suggested two key initiatives: popularizing the production and processing of Vitamin D-enriched mushrooms and intensifying farmer education on zoonosis to mitigate health risks in the district.
Dr. P.S. Sandhu emphasized the critical importance of disease management in crops, advocating for the adoption of resistant varieties while cautioning against the risks of monoculture. He urged the KVK team to disseminate scientific methods of crop production and propagation to ensure effective knowledge transfer. Furthermore, he encouraged farmers to transition toward integrated farming systems and agricultural processing to maximize economic returns.
Dr. Satbir Singh, Associate Director (Trg.), KVK, Ropar welcomed all members of the Scientific Advisory Committee. He presented the action taken report and progress report of KVK Ropar.
Dr. Sanjeev Ahuja, Assoc. Professor (Horticulture) presented the annual action plan of KVK to seek suggestions from all house for preparing a robust training schedule for next year.
The presentations were followed by a fruitful round of discussion. In response to farmers’ queries SAC members also gave their valuable inputs regarding like financial aids, marketing facilities, etc available with their departments.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. M.S. Bons, Assoc. Director (Trg.), Bahowal.
Later, a visit of dignitaries was arranged to the exhibition rooms and labs, technology park, seed production plots and demonstration units at KVK farm.
