The planting material provided to numerous growers and farmers, to support the cultivation of these valuable crops. In addition, the quality planting material of medicinal, aromatic and spice crops also provided to various firms and institutions. Numbers of visiters including students, trainees, farmers, official from different departments visit the herbal garden to get  exposure on various medicinal, aromatic and spice crops

  1. New Crop laboratory:

The laboratory carried out an extensive quality analysis of turmeric and various Mentha species which is crucial in understanding the potential uses of these plants. The laboratory undertook the extraction and quality assessment of essential oils from a wide array of aromatic plants. The practical classes of UG and PG students are also taken in the lab to impart quality analysis of aromatic and spice crops.

  1. Essential Oil Distillation Unit:

A distillation Unit for the extraction of essential oil from aromatic plants has been installed successfully at the School of Organic Farming, PAU, Ludhiana.  As per the specifications, the Distillation Unit is a direct-fired type, made of stainless steel, with a capacity of 200 kg per batch. The essential oil from various aromatic plants like mint, lemongrass, citronella, palmarosa etc can be extracted conveniently and efficiently using the Distillation Unit. The functioning of the distillation unit will be demonstrated to the farmers, as cultivation of aromatic crops alone cannot serve the purpose, as these crops are marketed only after processing, i.e., extraction of essential oil. By familiarizing themselves with the functioning of the distillation unit, even small farmers will be more encouraged to install such low-cost distillation unit at their farms.

  1. Soil and Plant Analysis Laboratory with AAS, Spectrophotometer, Flame Photometer, Laminar Flow and BOD Incubator
  2. Dragon fruit orchard to assess its performance under organic and natural farming systems at the School of Organic Farming
