Dr. Rajeev Sikka obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. He was recipient of ICAR merit scholarship during his graduation and ICAR JRF during his Master’s programme. He was awarded zonal award of Indian Society of Soil Science (ISSS) for his Master’s research and a commendation certificate of ISSS for his doctoral research. Dr. Sikka joined Punjab Agricultural University as Assistant Soil Chemist in Nov 1992 and was promoted to Principal Soil Chemist on 2009. His research focus has been on; i) developing diversified cropping systems and their fertilizer management interventions especially nano-fertilizers ii) assessment and amelioration of heavy metal bioavailability in soils. He has made both basic and technology-oriented contributions. His research results have been translated into 41 recommendations given to the farmers on fertilizer requirement of crops and cropping systems. He has published 65 peer reviewed research papers out of which 23 are in NASS rating > 6.5. In addition, he has published 26 popular articles, 15 bulletins and book chapter, 38 symposia papers/abstracts and 38 technical reports. He has completed 14 externally funded projects as PI and Co-PI. In addition to research, Dr. Sikka has been actively involved in teaching UG and PG Courses. He has guided 9 M.Sc. and 2 PhD students as major advisor. He has also contributed significantly towards extension activities in the form of conduct of on farm demonstrations at farmers’ field with focus on nano-fertilizer, crop diversification and rice residue management. He is currently PI of 8 externally funded projects. Besides this, he served as reviewer for 9 International Journals. Dr. Sikka has also been involved in human resource development and acted, planned and organized 21-day ICAR-CAFT training as Chief-Coordinator. He was also invited to attend and deliver lecture in the international conference on “Soil in the city” held at Chicago, USA. He was given Appreciation Certificate from Honorable Vice Chancellor, PAU during Kisan Mela Sept, 2024.
