TRAINING CAMP FOR PAU AROMATIC AND SPICE GROWERS CLUB

The Directorate of Extension Education in collaboration with the School of Organic and Natural Farming, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organised a farmers’ training camp for PAU Aromatic and Spice Growers Club at the Skill Development Centre. About 45 farmers participated in the programme, which was conducted under the guidance of Dr Tarsem Singh Dhillon, Additional Director of Extension Education and Communication.

Dr Rajendar Kumar, Principal Agronomist and PI of MIDH, coordinated the training programme and highlighted the importance of aromatic, herbal and spice crops in addition to elaborating the cultivation practices of turmeric.

Dr Gurveer Kaur, food processing expert, provided information on improved processing techniques of spices and also demonstrated various devices for processing.

Dr Vajnder Kalra, an agronomist, familiarized the participants with aromatic and spice crops at Herbal Garden.

Dr Khushdeep Singh Dharni, Associate Director, Technology Marketing and IPR Cell, shared valuable knowledge on agri-business model for aromatic and spices, and export procedure for agricultural commodities. The training concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Kumar.

Dr TC Mittal, Head, Department of Food Processing and Engineering, coordinated the visit of the members to the agro-processing unit at PAU.
